‘The Great She Bear’ has ancient roots spanning many civilisations and mythologies. For thousands of years, the bear has been a powerful symbol of strength, protection, intuition, and deep connection to the cycles of nature. As the seasons turn and the Spring Equinox arrives, the bear emerges from hibernation — a sacred moment that represents awakening, renewal, and the return of light.
After the long stillness of winter, the rising of the bear mirrors our own inner reawakening. It reminds us that rest, reflection, and darkness are part of the natural cycle that eventually leads to growth, hope, and new beginnings. Just as the bear steps out into the warming world, we too can emerge with fresh energy, creativity, and intention.
Even in more recent history, artists like Randolph Caldecott have captured the spirit of the She-Bear, reminding us of her enduring presence in folklore, storytelling, and visual imagination.
In this intuitive art workshop, we will connect with the spirit of the Great She Bear and the energy of the Spring Equinox. Through guided creative exploration, mark-making, and symbolic imagery, participants will create artwork that reflects themes of hope, renewal, and personal awakening.
No artistic experience is needed — only curiosity and openness. This is a space to explore creativity freely, reconnect with nature’s rhythms, and honour the quiet strength within you as we step into the light of spring. We also start the session with a small meditation so you can relax deeper into the creative process.

Biography – Lisa Lochhead
Lisa is an intuitive artist and writer whose work explores mystical expression, Goddess Archetypes, and the symbolism of mythology and ancient history. Inspired by the land and the Sacred Feminine, her paintings celebrate intuition, empowerment, and transformation. She has been working as an artist for over 11 years and has had a studio at the Heritage Centre Courtyard for the past 7 years. Her work is collected across the UK and internationally. She is also the author of a book on Goddess Archetypes and Totem Birds plus the creator of a published Oracle Deck with Guidebook. She also facilitates intuitive art workshops that empower women through creativity.
